FINISHED!!! And here's what I did. I took a soft eraser in Corel and reduced opacity to 15 percent and carefully erased some of the shadow over the yellow feathers to bring the original color back out. Then I went back to the basic color layer from step 2 and created another 'normal' layer over it and used a color pencil to carefully add in a little more yellow to brighten the feather of the head and beneath the wing. Then I used the same layer and opacity to just as carefully add a light yellow/white highlight to the top of the head and neck and the tail. I also put a tiny bit of the highlight under the bird's neck. Then I worked on the background with another 'normal' layer and just used a 'real dry brush' acrylic brush to block in a bunch of dark to nuetral colors and blended them with the detail blender.

Thanks to ParadigmParadox for letting me use her gorgeous photo to paint this. she really captured a gorgeous little lady and it inspired me to push myself to paint something I don't normally paint.
